070911-bluebirdhill~Fifth Annual Lavender Harvest!
Return to: Bluebird Hill Farm
Everyone who assists in the harvest (bring your own clippers or garden shears) will go home with a bouquet of fresh lavender.
However, you are not required to help with harvesting. You can simply sit in the shade or sun and watch the fun. (You may bring a sun umbrella if you like.) There will be places to sit, but you may wish to bring your own seating. This year we will introduce our new walk-behind Lavender Harvester from New Zealand, and our new Mega-Distiller. You’ll be able to see the field of Lavender turned into Essential Oil!
You are encouraged to bring a picnic lunch, beverages, and a blanket to sit on if you wish. There will be lunch provided for a reasonable price (free for neighbors, special friends, and helpers). Lunch will be served at 1:30.
If you draw, paint, or photograph, this will be an excellent opportunity for you to capture some interesting images. Some folks, hoping for breeze, are planning to bring kites to fly. If you’re musically inclined, please bring your instrument and help entertain us! We may even have enough for a pick-up band!
Please bring your fishing poles and tackle box! We have bass and enormous catfish in our pond. We will have a fishing tournament and a small prize for the person who catches the largest fish. We encourage you to bring ice in a cooler so you can take your catch home with you and eat it (although you can catch-and-release if you prefer)!
Admission is $5.00 per individual. The event starts at 9 am and will continue as long as folks want to stay around. NEIGHBORS, SPECIAL FRIENDS, LAST YEAR’S AND THIS YEAR’S HARVEST HELPERS, CSA MEMBERS, AND CHILDREN GET IN FREE.
You may park along the entry drive. There may also be signs allowing parking in other areas. Feel free to explore around the house and grounds, and sit anywhere you like. You may use the bathroom on the first floor of the house. It is not handicapped accessible. One word of caution: Since this is a farm, not everything is perfectly manicured, although we will do our best to spruce up for the occasion. Please look after your children and take care yourself. We will try to mark all the known fire ant mounds, but request that you use caution in looking out for them. If you are allergic to any kind of insect bites, please bring repellent and antihistamine just in case. We had a lot of bees in the lavender last year, but they completely ignored us. Please be sure to bring insect repellent and sunscreen with you...... We look forward to an enjoyable day! We hope you’ll join us!
Directions from Raleigh: Take US1 south, toward Sanford. Take the Asheboro exit and turn right onto Hwy 42. You have about 22 miles to go on 42--- cross the Deep River, go through Carbonton, cross the Goldston-Siler Rd, pass dairies, signs for Southern Supreme Fruitcake, etc. Eventually, you will see a road sign for intersection ahead (+). At that intersection, you will see Ronald Scott Road on the right and Calvin Phillips Rd on the left. Turn left onto Calvin Phillips Rd. The next road on the right is Clarence Phillips Rd. Turn right onto Clarence Phillips Rd. About halfway down that road you will see on your left our white mailbox with 421 and a blue Bluebird Hill Farm sign on it. Take the drive back down into the pasture and across a little creek where you will find the farm.

Natural resources need economic value to sustain and further the goals of conservation. ShadeFund is promoting that economic value and making triple bottom line results a reality.
