Affiliated with The Conservation Fund, The Natural Capital Investment Fund (NCIF) provides debt and equity financing to small businesses located in Central Appalachia and the Southeast: West Virginia, North Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, Kentucky and Ohio. With a focus on economically distressed urban and rural communities. NCIF offers flexible financing and targeted technical assistance to a variety of natural resource based businesses. NCIF uses a "triple bottom line approach" in its investment decisions, seeking companies that integrate positive economic, environmental and social performance.

The Fund frequently partners with traditional and community development lenders to encourage their participation in financing emerging green sectors; since 2001, its $5.6 million investment has leveraged over $26 million in additional financing from other sources.
